VP Opoku-Agyemang urges Ghanaians in Rwanda to register with embassies, updates on Reset Agenda progress

Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has engaged with Ghanaians living in Kigali, Rwanda, using the platform to brief the diaspora on government's Reset Agenda whilst encouraging stronger ties between citizens abroad and home institutions.

The meeting took place during the Vice President's attendance at the inaugural Africa Mindset Reset Forum in the Rwandan capital. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang used the engagement to stress the importance of Ghanaians registering with Ghana's diplomatic missions abroad, a move aimed at maintaining connectivity and ensuring access to official support services when required.

Economic stabilisation and infrastructure focus

Central to the Vice President's message was an update on government's broader Reset Agenda, with particular emphasis on economic stabilisation efforts and fiscal responsibility. "Our approach is to build from the ground up so that national development reaches communities," Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated during the engagement.

A cornerstone of this approach, she outlined, is significant investment in road infrastructure across the country. The Vice President highlighted how improved roads act as a foundation for virtually all development activities, from commerce to healthcare delivery and education access.

Complementing infrastructure spending, government is advancing decentralisation by channelling additional resources through the District Assemblies Common Fund. New guidelines are being implemented to ensure these allocations translate into visible improvements at the district and community level rather than remaining unutilised or misdirected.

Healthcare and education expansion

On the health sector, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reiterated government's commitment to achieving universal healthcare coverage. Three key interventions are driving this agenda: Free Primary Healthcare, designed to strengthen preventive care and community-level access; the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, which subsidises treatment for expensive non-communicable diseases; and the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Scheme to remove previous coverage restrictions.

"Together with the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Scheme, these interventions aim to progressively close gaps in healthcare access," she explained.

Education remains equally prioritised, with government dedicating sustainable funding streams to strengthen secondary schooling and address systemic performance challenges that have previously hindered student outcomes.
