Republic Bank and Enterprise Life roll out three new insurance products for Ghanaian families
Republic Bank Ghana and Enterprise Life Assurance have introduced three upgraded insurance products designed to address evolving financial protection needs among Ghanaian customers and families.
The trio comprises the Enhanced Funeral Finance Plan Unlimited, Family Income Security Plan, and Enhanced Educare—each targeting specific life stages and financial challenges that households commonly face.
What the new products offer
The Enhanced Funeral Finance Plan Unlimited expands the scope of traditional funeral cover, providing broader protection that reflects rising end-of-life costs in Ghana. The Family Income Security Plan steps in during emergencies, ensuring dependents receive financial support if the primary earner passes away or becomes unable to work. The Enhanced Educare tackles one of Ghana's most pressing household concerns by helping parents lock in funds to pay for their children's schooling, from primary through tertiary levels.
Joseph Laryea Ashong, General Manager for Commercial and Retail Banking at Republic Bank, emphasised that the launch reflects the bank's commitment to evolving alongside customer needs. "These products are part of our broader strategy to offer insurance solutions that genuinely respond to how Ghanaians' financial circumstances and priorities have changed," he said in essence.
Sidney Frimpong Selby, Senior Manager for Technical and Life Administration at Enterprise Life, revealed that market research drove the enhancement initiative. He noted that insurance benefit levels have shifted significantly, and customers demonstrated appetite for higher coverage limits—gaps the previous product suite could not fill. The partnership therefore redesigned offerings based on these identified gaps.
Why it matters for Ghana
Insurance penetration in Ghana remains low compared to regional peers, with many households operating without adequate financial safety nets. According to industry observers, funeral costs can devastate families financially, education fees strain household budgets, and loss of a breadwinner often forces families into poverty. These new products attempt to address those vulnerabilities.
The partnership also signals growing collaboration between Ghana's banking and insurance sectors to create integrated financial solutions. For Republic Bank customers, accessing insurance through their primary bank removes barriers—no need to visit separate insurers or navigate complex application processes. For Enterprise Life, the distribution partnership broadens market reach beyond its direct channels, particularly into Republic Bank's retail customer base.
The timing is significant given ongoing economic pressures on Ghanaian households. Rising costs of living, irregular incomes, and limited access to credit make insurance—particularly education and income protection products—increasingly essential. However, affordability remains a challenge; both institutions will need to ensure premium structures suit middle-income and aspirational households, not just the wealthy.
Next steps and customer access
The banks say the enhanced offerings are available to Republic Bank customers through branch networks and digital banking platforms. Specific premium rates, coverage limits, and enrollment procedures were not disclosed in the announcement, suggesting customers should contact their bank for detailed terms.
Both institutions emphasised that the partnership reflects broader sector commitment to delivering customer-focused insurance solutions relevant to Ghanaian life stages and financial realities. How successfully these products gain traction will depend on pricing competitiveness, claims settlement speed, and visibility among target customers.
