OmniBSIC Bank wins African Banking Excellence Award at UN forum, doubles assets to GH¢21.58bn

OmniBSIC Bank Ghana Limited has secured the African Banking Excellence Award for Growth, Innovation and Customer Value at the 12th International Forum on African-Caribbean Leadership (IFAL 2026), held in New York during the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The accolade recognises African financial institutions demonstrating outstanding performance in driving growth, fostering innovation and delivering customer value—a significant endorsement for a Ghanaian bank competing on the continental stage.

The recognition reflects OmniBSIC Bank's rapid transformation and strengthening position within Ghana's financial services landscape. In 2025 alone, the bank more than doubled its total assets to GH¢21.58 billion, while customer deposits climbed to GH¢16.56 billion. Profit before tax surged 104 percent to GH¢641 million, underscoring robust financial health and operational momentum.

What the recognition means for Ghana's banking sector

OmniBSIC Bank's international honour signals that Ghanaian financial institutions can compete credibly at continental and global levels when backed by sustained investment in technology, governance and customer experience. The award comes amid broader efforts by Ghanaian banks to strengthen their balance sheets and digital capabilities following the 2017 banking sector reforms by the Bank of Ghana.

Managing Director Daniel Asiedu emphasised the symbolic importance of the award: "Receiving this award on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly is deeply meaningful to us. It affirms what we have always believed—that a Ghanaian bank, built on local foundations and sustained by the trust of its customers, can compete and excel on the world stage."

The bank's growth is being driven by its OmniBSIC 5.0 strategic initiative, which prioritises technology-driven innovation, personalised service and proactive customer partnerships. With 41 business locations nationwide, the institution serves individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises, corporates and institutional clients through expanded digital banking capabilities.

Track record of domestic and international recognition

The IFAL award is the latest in a growing list of accolades for OmniBSIC Bank. The institution has been named Best Corporate Bank (Ghana) by Global Banking & Finance Review in 2023, 2024 and 2026, and Fastest-Growing Corporate Bank (Ghana) in 2023. Domestically, it claimed Bank of the Year honours at both the Ghana Business Awards (2023) and Ghana Business Standard Awards (2024), and SME Bank of the Year at the Ghana Credit Excellence Awards in 2024.

Additionally, OmniBSIC Bank has been recognised twice as Most Customer-Centric Bank by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) and ranked as a Top Bank in Consumer Service Quality by the Ghana Customer Satisfaction Index in 2025.

Broader implications for Ghana and the diaspora

Beyond the bank's recognition, Managing Director Asiedu was conferred honorary citizenship of the City of Stonecrest, Georgia, in acknowledgement of his leadership and commitment to advancing economic connections between Ghana, Africa and the global diaspora. Stonecrest, incorporated in 2016, focuses on economic empowerment, inclusive development and international collaboration.

Asiedu, who has been named Banking CEO of the Year (Africa) and Banking CEO of the Year (Ghana) in 2026—adding to his 2023 Personality of the Year (Private Sector) accolade—described the honour as an opportunity to deepen cross-border economic development. "This recognition belongs to every customer who trusts us and every staff member who makes it happen," he noted.

OmniBSIC Bank itself was formed in 2016 through the merger of OmniBank and Sahel Sahara Bank following the Bank of Ghana's sector reforms. Headquartered at Airport City in Accra, the universal bank continues to invest in technology, staff development and community support, positioning itself as a key player in Ghana's evolving financial ecosystem.
