NACOC Western North Commander Urges Community to Unite in Fight Against Drug Abuse

The Narcotics Control Commission's (NACOC) Western North Regional Commander, PNCO Adutwum Gyimah Dennis, has issued a strong call for communities, government agencies, and civil society organisations to work more closely together in addressing the alarming rise of drug abuse across the region.

Speaking at a recent engagement, Commander Gyimah Dennis stressed that the fight against narcotics cannot be won by law enforcement alone, and that sustained community involvement is critical to curbing the spread of illicit drug use among the population, particularly among the youth.

The Western North Region has, in recent times, faced growing concerns over drug-related activity, with communities raising alarm over the easy accessibility of controlled substances and the social consequences that follow, including increased criminal behaviour and public health challenges.

NACOC continues to intensify its public education campaigns and enforcement operations across the country. However, Commander Gyimah Dennis emphasised that lasting change requires every stakeholder — from traditional authorities and religious leaders to parents and schools — to play an active role in protecting their communities.

His call reflects a broader national effort to confront substance abuse head-on. Ghanaians are encouraged to report suspicious drug-related activity to NACOC or the nearest law enforcement office as part of a collective responsibility to safeguard communities.
