McBrown calls on Asante Kotoko management to engage Ashanti personalities for fan mobilisation

Ghanaian actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown has issued a public call to Asante Kotoko SC's management to leverage the influence of prominent figures across the Ashanti Region to strengthen the club's fan mobilisation efforts and community engagement.

In an interview on Luv FM's DriveTime show, McBrown—a well-known supporter of the Kumasi-based club and brand ambassador for Hisense Ghana, a club sponsor—expressed frustration that despite her connections and willingness to help, the club's management has not actively engaged her or other regional personalities in meaningful ways.

Partnership potential remains untapped

McBrown highlighted an apparent disconnect between Asante Kotoko's commercial partnerships and how those partnerships are activated on the ground. While Hisense Ghana supports the club through sponsorship, she argued that the arrangement could be leveraged far more effectively to drive supporter engagement and brand visibility.

"As a brand ambassador for Hisense Ghana, we already support Kotoko, but they haven't involved us a lot," McBrown stated, emphasising that her personal commitment to the club extends beyond her official role.

She stressed that meaningful collaboration requires direct outreach from the club's management. "If an individual of the team calls me, I won't take it seriously, but if the management is calling me, I will be here and I will be ready to do something for the club," she explained, signalling that high-level engagement could unlock substantial voluntary support from influential personalities.

Why it matters for Ghana

McBrown's appeal speaks to a broader challenge facing Ghanaian football clubs: the underutilisation of local influencers and community ambassadors in supporter engagement strategies. Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana's most successful and historically significant clubs, carries deep cultural weight across the Ashanti Region.

The club's success depends not only on on-field performance but on sustained fan engagement, especially in an increasingly competitive domestic league. Regional personalities—including actors, musicians, business leaders and media figures—possess significant reach and credibility with local audiences that clubs often struggle to harness directly.

McBrown's comments also highlight the identity and emotional connection that supporters have with Asante Kotoko. For many in Kumasi and beyond, the club represents regional pride and collective belonging. Mobilising that sentiment effectively requires trusted local voices, not just institutional messaging.

Timing and strategic implications

McBrown's remarks come as the Ghana Premier League prepares for its 2026/27 season launch on Saturday, 5 September 2026. Clubs are intensifying efforts to attract supporters and secure media visibility ahead of the new campaign, making this an opportune moment for Asante Kotoko to reassess its engagement strategies.

Her suggestion that clubs should adopt a more inclusive approach—bringing together influential regional personalities to form a coordinated mobilisation network—offers a practical roadmap. Other successful football clubs in Ghana have demonstrated the value of building such networks, allowing personalities to contribute their influence and platforms toward shared objectives.

For McBrown and others like her, the door remains open: "I believe that Kumasi is us, Kotoko is for us and Kotoko is for us to serve, so we are waiting for that call." The question now is whether Asante Kotoko's management will answer.
