James Rodríguez Hails Cristiano Ronaldo as 'A Wonderful Person' Ahead of Portugal–Colombia Clash

Colombia skipper James Rodríguez has paid glowing tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo, describing the Al-Nassr forward as a role model and one of football's most influential figures, ahead of the two nations' international fixture.

Speaking before their clash against Portugal, James reflected on how Ronaldo made him feel at home when he joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2014. The Colombian playmaker revealed that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was among the first players to extend a warm welcome in the dressing room.

"When I arrived at Real Madrid, Cristiano was one of the first people to welcome me," James said. "He invited me to his house, and from there we became very good friends."

James also expressed admiration for Ronaldo's dedication to maintaining peak physical condition, noting that the Portuguese forward, now 41 years old, continues to compete at the highest level — a feat he described as remarkable and inspirational for players worldwide.

"He is an example for everyone," James added. "He is a wonderful person and someone many players can look up to. Just look at the condition he is in at 41 years old."

The two stars built their bond during a successful spell together at the Santiago Bernabéu, where they formed part of a Madrid side that competed for major domestic and European honours. James said his respect for Ronaldo extends well beyond the football pitch.
