Cancer Support Network Foundation gives GHC100,000 to Ridge Hospital paediatric unit
The Cancer Support Network Foundation has donated GHC100,000 and medical consumables to the Paediatric Oncology Unit at Ridge Hospital in Accra. The gift was presented during the Foundation's annual Cancer Survivors Month campaign in June, which honours children undergoing cancer treatment and supports their families.
The donation ceremony included an emotional moment when two children who had completed their cancer treatment rang a ceremonial bell to mark the end of their journey. The Foundation, established in 2018, primarily focuses on adult oncology but makes a dedicated visit to paediatric oncology annually. Founder Dr. Juliet Appiah Quansah pledged sustained partnership with Ridge Hospital, noting that timely treatment combined with proper support enables children to overcome cancer.
Why this matters: Ridge Hospital serves a predominantly low-income population across Accra, with most paediatric cancer patients unable to afford treatment without donor support. Dr. Leslie Issa Adam-Zakariah, the hospital's Medical Director, explained that whilst Ridge provides tertiary-level care comparable to teaching hospitals at reduced cost, many families still struggle to meet treatment expenses.
Dr. Adam-Zakariah assured the Foundation that every contribution would be used directly for medications and hospital consumables. He noted that donor support is crucial to helping the hospital's most vulnerable patients access life-saving cancer treatment.
The Cancer Support Network Foundation operates across Ghana, providing advocacy, awareness campaigns, and direct financial support to cancer patients and their families throughout their treatment journey.
