Black Stars Must Be 'Stronger and Better' Against Croatia, Queiroz Warns
Ghana's football team faces a crucial World Cup encounter against Croatia on Saturday evening, with coach Carlos Queiroz demanding his players show marked improvement to secure victory at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Black Stars sit joint-top of Group L with four points alongside Croatia, following a 2-1 win over Panama and a goalless draw with England. Queiroz acknowledged that Croatia, despite their 4-2 loss to England, remain a formidable opponent capable of bouncing back. He praised the European side's quality and singled out midfielder Luka Modrić as one of football's finest talents in recent years.
"We know that result doesn't really show the capabilities of Croatia," Queiroz said. "That's why we are full alert. Tomorrow we only have one option—we have to come out more strong and better."
The Portuguese coach dismissed suggestions Ghana might play defensively for a draw, insisting his team will pursue victory throughout the 90 minutes. He stressed the importance of creating chances, maintaining possession, and competing with intensity and focus.
"The only way to play is to play for a win," Queiroz declared. "Express ourselves and have the freedom to enjoy and play good football. We need to fight more and be better than them on the pitch."
Victory would see Ghana progress to the Round of 32, whilst a draw or loss could complicate their path forward depending on other group results.
