Black Stars Hunger for More as Ghana Target Colombia in World Cup Last 32
Ghana striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has affirmed that the Black Stars remain fully motivated and driven ahead of their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash with Colombia, despite narrowly losing their final group game to Croatia 2-1 on Saturday.
Speaking after the Group L decider at Lincoln Financial Field, the Coventry City forward said the squad entered the tournament with both personal and collective targets, and that those ambitions have not wavered. "We came into the World Cup with high expectations and a strong desire to succeed. As players, we all have personal ambitions, but ultimately everything is geared towards helping the team achieve success," he told reporters.
Ghana finished third in Group L on four points following a win over Panama, a draw with England, and the defeat to Croatia. Despite finishing third, the Black Stars secured a place in the knockout rounds and will now face Colombia in Kansas City on 4 July.
Quality and Hunger in the Dressing Room
Thomas-Asante pointed to the depth of talent within Carlos Queiroz's squad as a major source of confidence. "When you look around our dressing room, you see talent, quality and players who are hungry to achieve something special. We want to make a name for ourselves and continue the proud legacy of Ghanaian football," he said.
Defender Derrick Luckassen echoed those sentiments, stressing the team's collective commitment to representing the nation with pride. "We always want to give our best and make the nation proud. Now our focus is on the next game and continuing our journey in the tournament," he added.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz has consistently reminded the squad that qualifying from the group stage was merely the first step. Ghana will be hoping to go deep into the tournament as they look to build on the country's storied World Cup history.
