Salma Mumin breaks silence: 'I've never met Julius Debrah' amid dating rumours

Actress and film producer Salma Mumin has firmly rejected claims circulating on social media that she was in a romantic relationship with Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff. The denial comes after social media rumours emerged in late 2025 alleging a romantic involvement between the two, with some commentators attempting to tie the claims to broader political narratives about Debrah's potential future in the NDC.

Speaking candidly on Joy Prime's Changes programme, Mumin told host Nikki Samonas that she has no connection whatsoever to Debrah. "I've never seen the man before, I've never met him before, I've never run into him anywhere in my entire life but I'm being tagged that I'm dating him," she stated, emphasising the seriousness of false allegations in the digital age.

Why the allegations matter

The rumours gained traction partly through commentary by Afia Schwarzenegger, a media personality known for controversial statements. Rather than limiting discussion to the alleged personal relationship, Schwarzenegger's remarks became entangled with claims about political sabotage and ulterior motives—a pattern that reflects how personal gossip in Ghana's media landscape frequently intersects with political discourse. Mumin highlighted how damaging such unfounded claims could be, particularly if she had been in an actual relationship at the time.

"Back then, I wouldn't sit here to talk about it, but look at me talking about it and that's how confident I have been," she said, signalling a change in how she approaches public criticism. She stressed that whilst some people may continue to believe the rumours regardless of her denial, speaking out and defending oneself is essential.

"I still believe silence is not golden. I've debunked it, I'm not dating Julius Debrah," she reiterated. This stance reflects a broader conversation in Ghanaian entertainment about the need for public figures to actively counter misinformation rather than allowing false narratives to take root unchallenged.

Despite the distraction of these allegations, Mumin is focused on her professional endeavours. She is preparing for the premiere of her latest film, Fighting Forces, scheduled for Friday, 18 September, across all Silverbird Cinemas.
