Police Update on Nana Akua Addo Domestic Violence Case as Suspect Hospitalised

The Ghana Police Service has provided an update on the investigation into alleged domestic violence involving television personality Nana Akua Addo and her husband, Harold Norman, following the circulation of videos that sparked public concern about abuse within their household.

According to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the formal complaint process began when Rosemond Akua Adobea, known professionally as Nana Akua Addo, filed a petition on 20 August 2026 alleging that her husband had subjected her to repeated physical, emotional and economic abuse. The investigation revealed that the couple had previously sought intervention through the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at both the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026, indicating an escalating pattern of concern.

Acting on these allegations, Harold Norman was arrested at his residence on 27 August to assist with investigations. Following his caution statement, he was released on police enquiry bail on 29 August with two sureties whilst the investigation progressed.

Court Appearance Delayed by Health Issues

Norman was scheduled to appear before court on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, but failed to do so after his legal representatives informed the Police that he had been admitted to hospital and was medically unable to attend. In response, investigators from DOVVSU have visited the medical facility to verify his hospitalisation status and are maintaining close monitoring to ensure his court arraignment proceeds immediately upon his discharge.

Support Services for Victim and Family

The Police disclosed that they are collaborating with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure that appropriate social welfare services are provided to both the alleged victim and the children involved. This multi-agency approach reflects broader efforts to provide holistic support to families affected by domestic violence.

Why It Matters for Ghana

This case highlights the ongoing challenge of domestic violence in Ghana and the critical role of law enforcement in responding to complaints. The Police Service's public statement demonstrates its commitment to transparency in high-profile cases, whilst emphasising established protocols for handling domestic abuse through dedicated units like DOVVSU.

The involvement of the Gender Ministry underscores the government's commitment to victim protection and family welfare. For Ghanaians, this case serves as a reminder of available support mechanisms, including DOVVSU's presence at multiple police stations nationwide, and reinforces that complaints of domestic abuse are taken seriously by authorities.

The Police reiterated its dedication to investigating domestic violence complaints professionally and fairly, whilst ensuring that victims receive appropriate protection and support throughout the legal process.
