NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong Honoured with Traditional Title by Dangme Executives

The New Patriotic Party's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has been bestowed with the traditional honour of Nene Korle I by the party's constituency executives in the Dangme areas, a gesture he has welcomed with gratitude and humility.

The recognition comes as Mr Kodua seeks re-election to his position within the opposition party. In his acknowledgement of the honour shared on social media, he described the distinction as rare and reflective of the confidence placed in him by local party structures in the Greater Accra region.

A Message Rooted in Traditional Wisdom

Mr Kodua's response to the honour drew heavily on traditional African proverbs and symbolism. He opened his statement with the saying: "A tree does not choose where it is planted, but it is known by the shade it gives," suggesting that his value lies in the service he provides to the party and its members.

Building on this theme, he invoked the image of the baobab tree, a symbol of strength and communal gathering in African culture, to illustrate his approach to leadership. "Like the baobab that offers shade to all who gather beneath it, I pledge to continue serving with fairness, humility, and unwavering commitment to our great party," he stated.

The General Secretary also honoured the local Dangme language and culture by expressing his gratitude in that tongue, saying "Mii ni oyeoo. Ayi booo," a gesture that resonated with the constituency executives who conferred the title.

Why It Matters for Ghana's Political Landscape

This recognition carries significance beyond ceremonial appreciation. As the NPP navigates its period in opposition following the 2024 general elections, internal party cohesion and the confidence of grassroots structures in national leadership become increasingly important. The honour from Dangme executives suggests strong support for Kodua's re-election bid and reflects the party's efforts to strengthen bonds between national leadership and constituency-level party members.

The Dangme areas, spanning constituencies in Greater Accra, represent a strategically important region for the NPP's political fortunes. The warm reception and traditional recognition also underscore how Ghanaian political parties continue to blend contemporary party structures with traditional authority systems and cultural practices—a dynamic that remains relevant to grassroots mobilisation and party unity.

Mr Kodua's message emphasised unity and forward momentum, ending with a call for collective effort ahead of the party's next major political engagement. "Together, we shall rebuild stronger and march confidently to victory," he wrote, signalling the party's determination to consolidate support across its constituency networks.

The use of hashtags including #KoduaCares, #TheJFKeffect, and #WinningTogether reflects contemporary political communication strategies, blending traditional respect with modern digital engagement as the NPP positions itself for future electoral contests.
