Newsfile to examine Torkornoo ruling, Dogbe jailing and drug trafficking concerns

Ghana's leading current affairs programme Newsfile will tackle several pressing national issues this Saturday, 27 June, in what promises to be a comprehensive examination of recent legal and political developments affecting the country.

Hosted by veteran broadcaster Samson Lardy Anyenini, the live discussion from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon will centre on three major topics. The panel will first discuss the ECOWAS Court's dismissal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's application, alongside the High Court's jailing of Herald newspaper Managing Editor Larry Dogbe, examining whether these outcomes represent justice being served.

The programme will also investigate implications of a $208 million methamphetamine seizure linked to Ghana, with experts questioning whether the bust exposes deeper vulnerabilities in the country's fight against transnational drug trafficking and whether the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) possesses adequate capacity and resources to address the growing threat.

A third focal point will be the 'Ken Must Go' campaign targeting NPP stalwart Kennedy Agyapong. Panellists will debate whether calls for his dismissal from the party are justified or politically motivated amid internal party tensions.

The discussion panel features Alexander Twum-Barimah (Deputy Director-General, NACOC), Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy (physician and political activist), Oliver-Barker Vormawor (constitutional rights adviser, Democracy Hub), and John Darko (MP, Suame).

Newsfile airs live on JoyNews (DSTV 421, GoTV 144), Joy FM 99.7 and Luv FM 99.5, with streaming available on Facebook, YouTube, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts.
