Ghanaian highlife musician K.K. Fosu has reiterated his determination to enter Parliament, announcing plans to contest the Akuapem North constituency seat as an independent candidate in the 2028 general election. The veteran performer expressed confidence that he can defeat the incumbent Member of Parliament, Sammy Awuku, despite the latter's party machinery and political experience.

Speaking during an interview on Asempa Showbiz, K.K. Fosu made clear he would not be deterred by Awuku's position within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). "If Sammy Awuku likes, he should leave the NPP and come to meet me face-to-face. I am going as independent candidate," he declared. When pressed about the electoral advantage of party affiliation, Fosu dismissed concerns about the NPP's strength, stating that the party's influence has significantly weakened.

The parliamentary seat holder responded to Fosu's challenge through a Facebook post with a lighthearted jab, writing: "KK Fosu, m'aya da. Please get me a campaign track before you pick the nomination forms. Nice weekend bro." The exchange reflects growing political activity ahead of Ghana's next general election cycle, with various candidates already positioning themselves for contests.

A Long Road to Politics

K.K. Fosu's political ambitions are not new. He first publicly expressed interest in representing Akuapem North in 2023, laying groundwork for a 2024 election campaign. However, those plans did not materialise. The musician cited a motor accident as preventing him from filing his nomination forms ahead of the 2024 general election. Additionally, he explained that upon learning Sammy Awuku would contest on the NPP ticket, he chose to step aside rather than split the vote or proceed as an independent against an established party candidate.

That decision proved significant. Awuku, a former National Organiser of the NPP, secured the party's parliamentary primary in January 2024 and subsequently won the general election in December 2024. He replaced Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, who had held the seat since 2017. Now, with Awuku embedded as the sitting Member of Parliament, Fosu has signalled his intent to challenge the incumbent head-on.
