KNUST Official Urges Bloggers to Champion Positive Stories and Ditch Misinformation

The University Relations Officer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has issued a strong appeal to bloggers and online content creators in Ghana, urging them to leverage their platforms for the promotion of positive and constructive news rather than sensational or misleading content.

The official stressed that the unchecked spread of misinformation across social media and blog platforms continues to pose a serious threat to public trust in the media, warning that irresponsible publishing has real consequences for society at large.

The call comes at a time when Ghana's digital media landscape is growing rapidly, with more citizens turning to blogs and social media pages as primary sources of news and information — often ahead of traditional outlets. This shift has raised fresh concerns among institutions and media watchdogs about standards of accuracy and accountability online.

The KNUST spokesperson encouraged content creators to see themselves as partners in national development, reminding them that their reach gives them significant influence over public opinion, particularly among young Ghanaians who consume the majority of online content.

Media observers have long called for greater self-regulation among Ghana's blogging community, with some advocacy groups pushing for a voluntary code of conduct that promotes ethical reporting, fact-checking, and responsible storytelling across digital channels.
