Government, Business Leaders Visit Black Stars Camp to Boost World Cup Ambitions

National Leadership Shows Support for Black Stars

Ghana's top government officials and business leaders travelled to the United States this week to meet with the Black Stars at their training camp in Rhode Island, signalling the nation's unwavering commitment to the team's FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign. The high-level delegation included Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams, Ghana's Ambassador to the United States Victor Emmanuel Smith, and prominent businessman Ibrahim Mahama.

At a breakfast meeting with the squad, Sports Minister Kofi Adams expressed the collective pride of all Ghanaians supporting the team. "The whole nation, the whole country is with you," he told the players. "When you throw your leg, the entire 35 million Ghanaians are supporting you." The Minister highlighted how the Black Stars' recent performances have reignited national pride among supporters both at home and across the globe.

Head Coach Carlos Queiroz thanked the delegation for their continuous backing, emphasising how the players draw inspiration from knowing their efforts bring joy to millions. "When we feel that you are happy, we feel proud because it is the great reward for our sacrifices," he said.

Businessman Ibrahim Mahama, a long-time supporter of Ghanaian sports, announced he would honour financial pledges made to the team following their impressive tournament displays. "I pledged that I wouldn't give the money until I saw a good performance, but now I want to rush over and give all the money," Mahama declared, adding plans for an additional bonus package conditional on continued excellence.

The Ghana Football Association used the visit to present its six-year roadmap, showcasing progress in grassroots development, women's football, youth programmes and infrastructure improvements. The engagement reinforced Ghana's determination to make a meaningful impact at the World Cup finals.
