Ghana Sports Fund boss backs Black Stars despite Croatia loss: 'Results will come'

The Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, Dr David Kofi Waku, has appealed to Ghanaians to remain patient with the Black Stars after the national team suffered a defeat against Croatia in the United States, insisting the performance itself was something to be proud of.

Speaking following the match, Dr Waku said judging the team purely on the result would be unfair, pointing to what he described as a display of resilience, discipline and a genuine fighting spirit from the players throughout the encounter.

"This was more than a football match. I saw a team that fought with pride, discipline and commitment. To me, this is not a defeat but a victory in terms of performance and progress. The results will come if we continue to believe in them," he said.

Dr Waku stressed that rebuilding a competitive national side demands consistency and public confidence, urging supporters not to withdraw their backing at a critical moment in the team's development. He called on all Ghanaians to rally behind both the players and the technical team.

The Ghana Sports Fund administrator also used the occasion to reaffirm the Fund's broader mandate, noting that it remains committed to delivering the financial framework envisioned by President John Dramani Mahama to create sustainable support structures for sports across the country.

"The Black Stars need the support of every Ghanaian at this moment. We must stand behind the team and give them the confidence to continue improving and striving for success," Dr Waku added, expressing optimism about Ghana's long-term prospects on the international stage.
