Ghana Sends 47 Nurses to Caribbean under Two-Year Work Exchange
The Government of Ghana has dispatched 47 nurses to St. Kitts and Nevis as part of a two-year bilateral exchange programme aimed at addressing unemployment in the nursing sector whilst strengthening healthcare partnerships across the Caribbean.
The initiative represents a strategic effort to provide employment opportunities for qualified Ghanaian healthcare professionals whilst simultaneously supporting healthcare delivery in the twin-island nation. The exchange programme is designed to create mutual benefits for both nations, allowing Ghanaian nurses to gain international experience and training whilst contributing to the healthcare needs of St. Kitts and Nevis.
This move comes as Ghana continues to grapple with high unemployment rates among healthcare workers despite the critical shortage of nursing staff in many regions. By facilitating overseas placements, the government aims to ease pressure on the local job market whilst maintaining a pipeline of skilled professionals for future domestic deployment.
The two-year programme also signals Ghana's commitment to deepening diplomatic and professional ties with Caribbean nations, potentially paving the way for similar healthcare worker exchange agreements in the future.
