The tournament, held from September 4 to 6 at the Athletik Zentrum St. Gallen, drew 862 registered competitors across cadet, junior, senior and Para Taekwondo divisions. The event was sanctioned by World Taekwondo and organised by Swiss Taekwondo and Taekwondo St. Gallen. The senior competition, where Sama competed, was designated a G1-ranked event, meaning it offered World Taekwondo ranking points—a significant platform for international athletes seeking to build their profiles.

Tournament Format and Sama's Performance

The Swiss Open featured separate ranking streams across its divisions. Whilst the Cadet and Junior competitions operated as E2 events for European Taekwondo Union rankings, the Senior division was elevated to G1 status, attracting high-calibre athletes. The men's senior categories ranged from under 54kg through to +87kg, with Sama competing in the highest weight class on Sunday, September 6.
