She was rushed to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on Saturday, March 29, 2025, after falling ill the previous day, Friday, March 28. A statement from the presidency confirmed her admission but did not disclose her diagnosis. However, the statement assured the public that she was in stable condition and had been advised to seek further medical care abroad as a precautionary measure.

The news of her illness sparked widespread concern, prompting an outpouring of well wishes on social media. Political leaders, religious figures, and members of the public joined in expressing their support and prayers for her speedy recovery.

In her goodwill message to the Muslim community on the occasion of Eid Mubarak, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the overwhelming concern and kindness shown by Ghanaians.
