MTN Ghana Issues Apology Over Widespread Internet Disruptions Caused by Undersea Cable Damage
MTN Ghana has issued a public apology to its customers following widespread internet connectivity problems linked to damage sustained by undersea cables off the coast of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
The telecommunications giant confirmed that the cable cuts are the root cause of the disruptions, which have affected data services for many of its subscribers across Ghana. The company assured customers that it is actively working alongside its network partners to restore full service as swiftly as possible.
Undersea fibre optic cables serve as the backbone of internet connectivity across West Africa, and any damage to these critical infrastructure links can have immediate and far-reaching consequences for multiple countries in the region simultaneously.
This is not the first time Ghana has experienced such disruptions — similar incidents in previous years have highlighted the country's heavy reliance on a limited number of undersea cable systems for international bandwidth. Telecom providers and industry observers have long called for greater investment in redundant cable infrastructure to cushion against such outages.
MTN Ghana urged affected customers to remain patient while restoration efforts continue, and pledged to provide further updates as the situation develops.
